From there our GPS devices will be pretty helpful in finding the right tracks that will lead us through an area that is tortured by immense geological forces while the nearly 1100 meter high shield volcano Skjaldbreid keeps an eye over our progression. After a couple of hours of skilful driving we finally will cross some rivers on Haukadalsheidi before we have to blend in the mainstream traffic around Iceland’s number one natural attraction Geysir and its next door, more cold water based, neighbour Gullfoss. The joy of driving a car with superb off road handling and smooth and comfortable on road behaviour will bring us some time of relaxation cruising through the arable farmland of the south. Depending on our progression in the morning we might be able to have a juicy dessert in the late afternoon when we enter the Thousand Water Way on the Hellisheidi pass, a good way to get rid of some adrenaline at the end of an unusual Golden Circle.
